An audit is not a box-ticking exercise. It is the mechanism by which stakeholders — boards, donors, regulators, lenders, and members of the public — obtain independent assurance that the financial statements they rely on give a true and fair view. At James Ok and Partners, CPA, we treat every engagement with that weight. Every audit file we produce is partner-reviewed, standards-compliant, and defensible to any regulator who picks it up
Our Approach
Our audit practice operates on a dual-track methodology. We apply Full ISA to public-interest entities, donor-funded organisations with complex accountability requirements, regulated entities, and any engagement where stakeholder expectations or contractual requirements demand it. We apply the ISA for Less Complex Entities (ISA for LCE) where the eligibility criteria are met and the framework permits it — delivering a proportionate, rigorous audit without unnecessary cost to smaller organisations.
Every engagement is risk-based and fully documented in accordance with ISA 230. Quality at the firm level is governed by ISQM 1; engagements meeting our thresholds are subject to an Engagement Quality Review under ISQM 2. Independence and ethics are maintained under the IESBA/ICPAU Code throughout the engagement — not just at acceptance.
Engagements We Undertake
Statutory audits — companies incorporated under the Companies Act, 2012, including SMEs, holding companies, and subsidiaries.
NGO, CBO and INGO audits — organisations registered under the NGO Act, 2016, including faith-based organisations, community-based organisations, and international NGO country programmes.
Donor and grant audits — project-specific audits under USAID, EU, UN-system, BMZ/Sequa, Plan International Finland, CDC/PEPFAR, Global Fund, Bread for the World, and similar frameworks. We have closed multi-district, multi-partner donor audits to deadlines that triggered subsequent funding releases.
Regulated entity audits — SACCOs, microfinance institutions, forex bureaus, and money remitters under the Financial Institutions Act and the Tier 4 Microfinance Institutions and Money Lenders Act, 2016. We are prequalified by the Bank of Uganda for forex bureau audits.
Public sector audits — Local Government and sub-county audits performed under appointment from the Office of the Auditor General of Uganda (OAG).
Internal audit outsourcing and co-sourcing — delivered under the IIA International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) and the firm’s Internal Audit Methodology Manual (2026 Edition).
Special-purpose and other assurance engagements — agreed-upon procedures under ISRS 4400 (Revised); review engagements under ISRE 2400 (Revised); special-purpose audits covering revenue, payroll, procurement, and fixed-asset verification; and forensic and investigative engagements on a case-by-case basis.
What You Can Expect
Audit reports are issued in compliance with ISA 700, ISA 701, ISA 705, and ISA 706 as applicable — or ISA for LCE Section 14 where that standard governs the engagement. The firm name, ICPAU membership number, and practising certificate number are disclosed on every report we issue.
Beyond the report, we communicate audit findings, internal control observations, and management letter points directly to those charged with governance. We do not issue a report and disappear. Where we identify tax exposures, compliance gaps, or control weaknesses in the course of an audit, we tell you.
