Audit & Assurance

Independent audits you can stand behind — trusted by your board, your regulator, and your funders.
An audit at James Ok & Partners, CPA is an independent, evidence-based opinion on whether your financial statements are true and fair — done properly, documented fully, and explained in plain language. We audit companies, NGOs and faith-based organisations, donor-funded projects, SACCOs, forex bureaus, oil and gas contractors, and public-sector entities across Uganda, under Full ISA or ISA for Less Complex Entities (ISA for LCE) as appropriate, inside a documented System of Quality Management aligned to ISQM 1. We’re regulated under the Accountants Act 2013 and bound by the IESBA Code — independence isn’t a marketing line here, it’s the rule we work under.

Integrity. Precision. Partnership. That’s how we sign off, every time

What we audit

Statutory & financial statement audits

An independent opinion on whether your financial statements present a true and fair view, prepared under IFRS or IFRS for SMEs. For qualifying smaller entities we apply ISA for LCE — full rigour, proportionate to your size. The result: audited accounts you can file with URSB, submit to URA, present to your bank, or put before members at the AGM

Review engagements

Not every stakeholder needs a full audit — some just need credible, independent comfort on the numbers. A review engagement gives limited assurance: we conclude on whether anything has come to our attention suggesting the financial statements are not fairly prepared, without the depth of testing a full audit requires. It’s faster and more cost-effective than a statutory audit, and a good fit for interim financials, smaller entities not yet required to be audited, or lenders and boards who want more than a compilation but don’t require a full opinion

NGO & donor-funded project audits

Donors want assurance their money went where the agreement said it would. We audit NGOs, faith-based organisations, and individual projects against both the applicable reporting framework and your specific grant or cooperative agreement — eligible costs, budget-versus-actual, procurement compliance, and donor reporting conditions. We have real experience with donor arrangements common in Uganda, including PEPFAR/CDC cooperative agreements and GOPA/PACE-type donor income, and we scope the audit to match — whole-organisation, single-project, or grant-compliance only.

Internal audits

An independent, outsourced set of eyes on your controls — weak spots in cash handling, procurement, and compliance, found before they cost you. We agree the scope up front, test how things actually work day to day, and hand you clear, prioritised recommendations. A natural fit for NGO boards, SACCOs protecting member savings, and SMEs formalising controls for the first time.

Agreed-upon procedures (AUP)

When a donor, lender, or partner needs verification of specific facts — a fund balance, a grant expenditure return, a bank reconciliation — rather than a full opinion, AUP is the right tool. We agree the exact procedures with you and the relying party, carry them out, and report factual findings only. Fast, focused, and proportionate to what’s actually being asked.

How we work

Our audits follow a clear, risk-based process, so effort goes where the risk actually is:

  1. Planning & risk assessment. We get to know your organisation, understand your environment and controls, and identify where things are most likely to go wrong. This is where we decide whether Full ISA or ISA for LCE applies.
  2. Fieldwork & testing. We gather and document sufficient, appropriate audit evidence — testing controls and balances, verifying transactions, and following up on anything that doesn’t add up.
  3. Reporting & sign-off. We give you a clear audit opinion, a management letter setting out any control weaknesses we found, and practical recommendations. Then we sit down and talk you through it — no surprises, no jargon.

Everything is fully documented and subject to our internal quality reviews before any report is issued.
